We found ourselves in a battle to save our office space during the recent torrential rain within Newcastle upon Tyne.
Within a very short space of time, approximately 20 minutes when the weather changed. We found our office floor under 10 inches of water.
All hell broke loose. Unable to stop the water from entering into our office space, our only aim was to save our equipment and stock. Moments of Captain Jack Sparrow came to mind, I immediately started shouting out instructions to my crew members, which followed by manic actions by all. With the electrics short circuiting and the lighting going off, I am still on the lookout for the motley crew member who shouted… "I, I, Captain!"
It's been a few days now since the water departed. Carpets have been uplifted and we now have to work in conditions not to the liking of creative people. During this challenge we have to keep up with our timeline lines and deliverable. Ensuring projects ends are met and customer service is delivered. With a team of 11 (Octopus crew), we took to the seas and experienced how to design, code and create wonderful marketing materials at sea. Needless to say it wasn't a pretty experience.
During our turbulence period, we have lost 5 machines, one of which was in the region of £110k. **it happens!
A big shout out goes to our close partner companies who have helped Octopus Media during this period. Without you we wouldn't have been able to deliver on several key projects.
